I have a lot of sympathy for the ump's inability to see Jeter's very deft avoidance of the tag - it was only really possible to see what happened properly in slow motion replay.

However the rules say the tag has to be applied and I agree completely with the rule. If you say that a defensive player was "in a position to" apply the tag, why not give an out when a player is "in a position to" catch a fly ball? What about a hitter "being in a position to" hit a home run?

Baseball is and should be about what players do, not what they could do.

PS I am totally biased in favour of Derek Jeter and the Yankees.

Hello, I am from Minnesota, so with that I have an inherited gene to be a Twins fan. I have to wonder why o why can't we beat the Yankees? It is as if the games against the Yankees is somewhat psychological. We have the same records, yet, we can't beat them. From your prospective, how do you see it?
